Hey Ian. 48 year old framer, got a hive as an anniversary gift last year. Got my first nuc June 1 this year. Have watched hundreds of hours of videos to educate myself leading up to getting my girls. Watched most of your stuff, Bob Binnie and the U of Guelph HBRC stuff. I just watched this video and it reminded me to thank you. You paint the picture as it truly is which isn’t always pretty. Surprisingly enough your failures at times are as encouraging as your successes. It keeps it real for us rookies. If you are ever in Hamilton, Ontario, I’d love to give you a tour or my single hive apiary. Thanks again.
Hello Ian, You were not sure why the bees had not gone through the newspaper. Two things I find helps, is making a number of holes the size you would have in your feeder buckets to get them started, also wet a small area of the newspaper with a little syrup. I have never known it to fail. Kind regards, Tony Marsh. UK.
Are you getting parts like these from Ezy loader or elsewhere?
It’s BTa (bacillus thurigenisis subtype a) also marketed as Xentari
wheres the mud? you wouldn't get that truck with tyres it has if so or is at next site? is it hot there? great new queen hives btw. 5:50 ish beautiful "what" queen, she a early riser for spring?
Please do you carry out drone and queen rearing with queen insemination.?
This is a great job. please l want to work with you. I have 20 years field experience in banking with Langstroth hives
o man, just seeing tall grass like that.... are there ticks in your area or you fortunate enough not to have the dreaded deer tick? Been pretty rough here in the North East / CT / MASS/ RI area. Great flow, just have to be careful checkin hives here this year.
"It's actually not that cold it's only minus 7".....as an Australian I would like to say that is bloody cold mate ! You do a great job I admire your industrious attitude. God Bless you and your family.
I just comment for support and amusement.... On on hand you ask for help end of govt wont help you, another department forbids you from trying new things they have not certified you to use and in the end you are forced to burn the equipment which in turn brings another department of govt to give you a fine for burning painted wood products. Which in turn tells another department you had a fire and this puts you over your carbon allotment for the year and now you get fine for pollution. Seems to be all but forgotten you are trying to raise bees. Keep you chin up . cheers
Hi Ian, feel free to tell me to do one. But would you be interested in doing a live podcast with me. I watch your videos and see so many similarities but also so many differences with our climate and bees etc. I would love to pick your brains and I think it would help lots of people
Yes absolutely

Hello master. I am writing from Turkey. I enjoy following your beekeeping videos. But since I don't know English, I can't understand your conversations. I request you to add Turkish subtitles to your RUclips videos. God bless you.
Yessss 👍👍👍

Gday ian would like to see more big honey crop vids 7 ,8 boxes high
What has your experience been with using honey bees to pollinate canola fields? I'm sure it makes for great canola but what kind of effort do you have to go through to harvest canola honey? I have heard that you have to get to canola honey quickly or it will crystallize in the comb and make it hard to recover. Do you have any thoughts?
Oh ya. The reason why I employ 7 locals
I use Apigaurd in August after I pull honey supers.
Randy Oliver's research has shown if you leave the wrapper on the upper half of the pad, you slow the release of formic enough to have it work and not have a major kill off. That said. Placing the pad on top of the second and having the reflectics directly on top is the same in theory. If actually like to see how two pads would do like this. Maybe next year you can trial that method.
When you keep forgetting your bee suit, it's time to run for POTUS. 😅

Great way of explaining the frames on your inspections. Thank you
Having used it when it’s new and towards the end of its expiry date it is a different beast towards the end. It’s a much hotter treatment and results in higher Queen loss, the in the odd occasion I found the Queen on the outside of the hive.
white clover starting in my area
I would give them the patties and a little bit of syrup. You know when they emerge they will need to make the fat stores in the body and the syrup to not slow down right now. To me it looks like it will take time for those plants to produce.. but what do I know watching from here. If l could l would switch my entire operation to those 3×6 sistem. But it's late now.. I don't have the willpower to do it. Maybe when I pension myself with 50ish colonys
Sucks for the farmer but makes for a nice long bloom cycle for the beekeeper. 😏Blessed Days Ian...
👏👏😀🐝👏👏👏☕
WOOHOO... The rain stopped and the flow is ON!!! 😁 Added some 2nd supers this morning... 🎵Honey honey honey🎶Money money money🎵
The question is, how much honey will a pound of protein and half a bucket of feed produce. Constant micro choices, that lead to brilliance, or just spent money, without return. It's interesting to hear you think out loud, loss=gain= expense.
Management science at its best!
That lifter gives me a twitch. It's awesome.
Flea beatles ?? We had a tornado or plow wind flatten the crops near my Carrot river the canola and buckwheat iwas hoping for took a real beating . I hope it recovers or is reseeded a late crop would be a blessing 😢 Such is beekeeping and weather .🤞
Look at him smiling.. first stage, second stage and third stage. 😁 I'm so happy here l could cry. A rain passed and must be a miracle it didn't missed the spot. Right when I tought we're done for the season and summer we get a all night rain and a cloudy humid day after it. Under 30c. So lavender here we come.. and the grasses and weeds... l can only imagine the revival and the amount of flowers instead of the yellow dry ground. It must be almost a decade that I didn't get a rain like this. Hives full of bees moving out again.. work work work with fresh new queens. No way I'm letting them lay more than 7 frames before the dearth starts again. It will be 7+empty feeder +1 frame
are the patties the high protein spring patties
Yes
Makes me really appreciate Nova Scotia we have no dearth well I don’t have one my flow stated in may it will go until end of September we don’t have to feed anything now until fall time
What is causing the canola to have pest stress? Too much water , wind storm, or not enough sun?
Not warm enough
How far in travel time is your furthest yard from the shop?
Hi planning a trip from Scotland to Canada next year after watching race around the world. as well as you Manitoba looks wonderful nearer the time would you help with recommendations for hotels please and places to visit
hello friends
Is that the new truck?
No, the arm is being installed
There were a few farmers in my area of East Tennessee that tried growing canola for a couple of years. I heard they stopped because it was expensive to keep pests off the plants. It was beautiful to see!
😮I’ve heard that people have had issues with Formic Pro- I just added my 2 strips last Wednesday for 14 days. -I leave foil on the top of the pad, supposed to slow the 💥harsh, fast flash off. -I also remove my entrance reducer -I take out my “inspection tray” from my Screened Bottom Board -I add an additional empty Super to aid in overall ventilation on the hive. -I have Broodminder sensors in my Hives-Bees are doing okay. -My local temperatures range from 58-63 degrees. 🤞 Good Luck.
How many hours of sleep is ideal for you, Ian?
Hi Ian, for that yard where it didn’t work out, might someone have petted a dog with a flea collar? I heard of someone in Quebec who lost a lot that way.
What about thymol?
Do you have any basswood(Linden) flow to speak of up there?
Stanley's cup shines in Florida
Ian how do you deal with hatching drone above the queen excluders?
It’s a problem with colonies that are tight
I envy how you get to use deeps for supers and have matching combs. Yeh take some time to relax before extracting
That table make me nerves!😦
